The previous fixtures were anchored into the wall at both sides....the new

fixture needs to be secured to the wall where the wire connections are

I would get a piece of thin wood with a nice finish on it, like

They also have what is called a ''cut in box'' which you can buy. You cut
a hole the size of the box, push the box in the hole until it is flush,
then turn two screws which wedge the box from the back side. These only
work when the sheet rock is in good condition.
